Beschreibung

Die Angebote richten sich an ALLE Mitarbeitenden mit Arbeitsvertrag an der Universität Osnabrück und dazugehörigen Instituten, z. B. iDerm. Sollte es Einschränkungen bzgl. der Zielgruppe geben, werden diese im Titel oder der Beschreibung deutlich gemacht. „Globaler Status ist Lehrende/r“ bedeutet NICHT, dass der Kurs nur für Personen aus der Lehre ist. ALLE Mitarbeitenden mit Arbeitsvertrag haben den globalen Status Lehrende/r und dürfen teilnehmen!! Der Status ist eine von Stud.IP vergebene Bezeichnung und muss mit angegeben werden, um sicherzustellen, dass nur Mitarbeitende der UOS sich anmelden können.

How does culture influence working methods and interactions at universities and with authorities in Germany?
What are the cultural characteristics of the German work and communication culture? And what are intercultural competences and how can we actively strengthen them?

In this course, you will learn how culture shapes the way we think and act, what cultural differences there are in communication, in hierarchical concepts, in dealing with time or with rules, for example, and how to deal constructively and profitably with cultural diversity at the university.

We reflect on the special features of German working and communication culture and try out specific techniques to analyse situations and resolve irritations or misunderstandings to demonstrate appropriate behaviour. Using case studies as well as practical exercises, you will expand your cultural knowledge and repertoire of behaviour and develop strategies for successful cooperation and intercultural communication, for example in feedback or conflict discussions and in contact with authorities.

· What is culture and how does it influence perception, thinking and behaviour?
· Cultural values, cultural standards and their influence on working methods in Germany
· Reflection on personal imprints and preferences
· Reflection on one's own perception and strengths of a prejudice-conscious attitude
· Basics of intercultural communication and strategies for successful communication in Germany
· Working with case studies
· Recognising and strengthening your own intercultural skills
