Beschreibung

Humans and robots working and living along each other is no utopia but rather a part in our life in the next decade. Not only are intelligent programs part of our lives, such as service or chat robots, but in the foreseeable future there will also be care and maintenance robots. With increasing cooperation between humans and machines, the appearance and behavior of robots will become more and more important, as human perception is strongly influenced by the shape and movement of the cooperation partner.
In this seminar we will explore ideas from art design, psychology and HRI studies, the uncanney valley effect. Abstractness and realism, and attempt to formulate guidelines for design decisions in Human Robot Collaboration (HRC).

To explore the interactions between technical implementation of Human-Robot Cooperation and human behavior, we will conduct small research projects during the seminar in which student groups will design a virtual robot for a specific and socially relevant purpose using, for example, Unity 3D and Blender, and evaluate HRC with subjects.
